“I have always been concerned with the question of what sacrifices of resources should be made for art? In relation to international art exhibitions, a sculpture or a large painting that is produced on site, i.e. regional recyclable material transformed into art, was much more authentic and environmentally conscious to me as a confrontation with a place and its society and culture than bringing a large object under climate-damaging transport with the container shipping or air freight from anywhere else in the world to the exhibition site.”
About my work
In my abstract painting I deal with the recycling of product materials, their transformation into art (vehicles, society trash), fossil fuels versus electromobility and the use of resources and the creation of emissions also in global art and exhibition activity.
I combine techniques from the painting and automotive industries, i.e. for the production of the pictures I use painting compressors and grinding machines in addition to painting. My work is inspired by the world of mobility, media and art travel. The “travel collages” (since 1999) are created directly at the traveled locations and are like a visual diary (Publ.: Phantom Ride, Marcus Sendlinger, Galerie Melike Bilir Hamburg, Distanz Verlag, Berlin, 2020).
For many years I have been making pigments from aluminium, steel or iron for my abstract paintings, taking vehicles apart and transforming them into abstract sculptures. I use vehicle parts as templates for pictorial forms and collage “cultural finds” into my on-site drawings during my travels, such as along the Mexico-US border in 2019 and 2020, which ended with exhibitions in Phoenix, Chihuahua, and Mexico City. In Chihuahua, a space-filling abstract sculpture was created consisting of car parts collected from car accidents, traffic signs and the remains of local road closures together with works on paper and iphone prints as an overall installation.
On my four-sided farm from 1850 in Brandenburg, I experiment with off-the-grid life with wood stoves, my own forest and a well and bring 80-year-old vehicles back to life or transform them into abstract sculptures.
As a 12-year-old I was already working in my grandfather's paper recycling company on the assembly line (https://frankfurter-personalenlexikon.de/node/1232) and for many years I have been dealing with the topic of recycling paints and producing my own raw materials such as color pigments from aluminum scrap and "creation on site" of art in other countries to counteract pointless shipments of crates and to reuse regional resources.
The pigments for color production from aluminium, steel or iron (silver and rust colors) are created by the production of parts for my vehicles. These are collected and bound. Vehicle parts collected during the production of car and motorcycle sculptures are archived and used as stencils for pictorial forms of painting and paperwork, combined with classical techniques.
Cars and motorcycles are also transformed into abstract sculptures like those shown in the villa's garden, others are in collections in Austria or England. When I travel, I collage “cultural finds” into the drawings I make on site.

When I walked across the border bridge from El Paso to Ciudad Juarez in 2019 with 2 suitcases loaded with collages and drawings created on the trip to meet the driver of the gallery owner (I gave my Fender Flat Top guitar to someone on the street because it was overloaded), followed outside of the city in the direction of Chihuahua, a kilometer-long sea of plastic encircles the city of Ciudad Juarez. Arrived in Chihuahua Mexico and inspired by it, I used only car parts from car accidents, scrapped lumber, street signs, license plates collected from the streets of the city with the help of a truck for my space-filling abstract sculpture (Road Trip Sculpture, 2020, La Estacion Gallery). For the opening, I invited a local underground band to play.
We live in a time of debates about climate change and scarcity of resources and the resulting intra-societal and global conflicts and crises that result. In my picture series "Lucky Seven" (2023) I put the general use of resources in society and in art up for debate without becoming partisan.
In my picture series “Lucky Seven” (2023), of which I show some pictures, I was also inspired by the conflict between the “last generation” and their fight against fossil fuels versus the not yet existing possibility for society to completely abandon the products of the to enable oil industry as in mobility (outside of big cities) or in other production chains. The pictures deal with the conflicts between different social groups and yet form a unit in themselves.
Current global issues are implemented with current contemporary materials that I include in the images as elements, i.e. packaging from international car parts / manufacturers of the combustion and electrical industries as well as text passages from debates, as well as car paints, 1 and 2 components, gold pigments / paint from Bronze, aluminium, petroleum tones, neon colors like "cold rays".
The acrylic/oil/paint/paper pictures have titles like “Starter Motor” or “Defensa del Petróleos”, based on the collaged packaging fragments of international car parts or car magazines.
The "Lucky Seven" series takes its name from a gambling hall in Wedding. The seven often stands for luck, or spirituality or even for the days of the week as a recurring "hustle" of every individual in our society.
The game parlor name as a simple metaphor that in history and also today mankind manages to slip past the absolute catastrophe and that only with a lot of luck. The future is uncertain and can quickly turn tragic, as shown by the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine, which has turned into a cruel war, and just as the still unstable situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are easily merging civil war-like situation can change.
Other pictures that can be seen deal with the studio work after the trips with collaged magazines and textiles brought along with titles such as "Bikefarm", "Flamingo Park" (2020), "Army of Hardcore" (2022), "Chopper Shop" (2013) or "Power Plant" (2015).

„Seit jeher beschäftigt mich die Frage, welche Ressourcenopfer für die Kunst gebracht werden sollen? Mir war in Bezug auf internationale Kunstausstellungen eine Skulptur oder eine grosse Malerei die man vor Ort herstellt, also regionales recyclefähiges Material in Kunst transformiert als Auseinandersetzung mit einem Ort und dessen Gesellschaft und Kultur wesentlich authentischer und umweltbewusster, als ein grosses Objekt unter klimabelastendem Transport mit der Containerschiffahrt oder Luftfracht von einem anderen Ort der Welt zum Ausstellungsort zu transportieren.“
Zu meiner Arbeit
In meiner abstrakten Malerei beschäftige ich mich mit Recycling von Produktmaterialien, Transformation derer in Kunst (Fahrzeuge, Society Trash), fossile Brennstoffe versus Elektromobilität und den Umgang mit Ressourcen und Entstehung von Emissionen auch in der globalen Kunst- und Ausstellungstätigkeit.
Ich kombiniere Techniken der Malerei- und Autoindustrie, d.h. für die Herstellung der Bilder verwende ich neben Malerei auch Lackierkompressoren und Schleifmaschinen. Meine Arbeiten sind inspiriert von der Welt der Mobilität, Medien und Kunstreisen. Die „Reisecollagen“ (seit 1999) entstehen unmittelbar an den bereisten Orten und sind wie ein visuelles Tagebuch (Publ.: Phantom Ride, Marcus Sendlinger, Galerie Melike Bilir Hamburg, Distanz- Verlag, Berlin, 2020).
Seit vielen Jahren stelle ich für meine abstrakten Bilder selbst Pigmente aus Aluminium, Stahl oder Eisen her, nehme Fahrzeuge auseinander und transformiere sie in abstrakte Skulpturen. Ich nehme Fahrzeugteile als Schablonen für Bildformen und collagiere auf meinen Reisen „kulturelle Fundstücke“ in meine vor Ort entstandenen Zeichnungen mitein wie entlang der mexikanisch- us- amerikanischen Grenze 2019 und 2020, die mit Ausstellungen in Phoenix, Chihuahua und Mexico- City endete. In Chihuahua entstand eine raumfüllende abstrakte Skulptur bestehend aus gesammelten Autoteilen von Autounfällen, Verkehrsschildern und Absperrungsresten der örtlichen Strassen zusammen mit Papierarbeiten und i- phone Prints als Gesamtinstallation.
Auf meinen Vierseitenhof von 1850 in Brandenburg experimentiere ich mit dem off-the-grid Leben mit Holzöfen, eigenem Wald und Brunnen und erwecke 80 Jahre alte Fahrzeuge wieder zum Leben oder transformiere diese in abstrakte Skulpturen.
Bereits als 12- jähriger jobbte ich in Papierrecyclingfirmen meines Grossvaters am- und auf dem Fliessband (https://frankfurter-personenlexikon.de/node/1232) und seit vielen Jahren beschäftige ich mich mit dem Thema von Recycling von Lacken, Herstellung von eigenen Rohstoffen wie Farbpigmente aus Aluminiumschrott und „vor Ort Schaffung“ der Kunst in anderen Ländern, um sinnlose Verschiffungen von Crates entgegenzuwirken und um regionale Ressourcen wiederzuverwenden. Ebenso sah ich Altes gegenüber dem Neuen nicht als schlecht an und belebte bereits Ende der 1980er Jahre stehengelassene amerikanische, englische und deutsche Autos und Motorräder wieder zum Leben, da ich es als Ressourcenverschwendung ansah und ebenso ihren Materialwert erkannte.
Die Pigmente zur Farbherstellung aus Aluminium, Stahl oder Eisen (Silber- und Rostfarben) entstehen durch die Teileherstellung für meine Fahrzeuge. Diese werden gesammelt und gebunden. Bei der Herstellung von Auto- und Motorradskulpturen gesammelte Fahrzeugteile werden archiviert und als Schablonen für Bildformen der Malerei und Papierarbeiten verwendet und mit klassischen Techinken kombiniert.
Autos und Motorräder werden auch in abstrakte Skulpturen transformiert wie die gezeigten im Garten der Villa, andere befinden sich in Sammlungen in Österreich oder England.
Auf Reisen collagiere ich „kulturelle Fundstücke“ in meine vor Ort entstandenen Zeichnungen ein.

Als ich 2019 über die Grenzbrücke von El Paso nach Ciudad Juarez mit 2 Koffern beladen mit auf der Reise entstandenen Collagen und Zeichnungen lief, um den Fahrer des Galeristen zu treffen (meine Fender Flat Top Gitarre schenkte ich wegen Überladung Jemandem auf der Strasse), verfolgte mich ausserhalb der Stadt in Richtung Chihuahua ein kilometerlanges Plastikmeer, was die Stadt Ciudad Juarez umkreist. In Chihuahua Mexico angekommen und davon inspiriert, benutzte ich für meine raumfüllende abstrakte Skulptur nur Autoteile von Autounfällen, weggeforfenes Bauholz, Strassenschilder, Autokennzeichen, gesammelt von den Strassen der Stadt mithilfe eines Trucks (Road Trip Sculpture, 2020, La Estacion Gallery). Zur Eröffnung lud ich eine lokale Underground- Band ein, zu spielen.
Wir leben in einer Zeit der Debatten von Klimaveränderungen und Ressourcenknappheit und der daraus resultierenden innergesellschaftlichen und globalen Konflikte und Krisen, die daraus resultieren. In meiner Bilderserie „Lucky Seven“ (2023) stelle ich den allgemeinen Umgang mit Ressourcen in der Gesellschaft und wie auch in der Kunst zur Debatte ohne parteiisch zu werden.
In meiner Bilderserie „Lucky Seven“ (2023), von der ich einige Bilder zeige, inspirierte mich ebenso der Konflikt zwischen der „Letzten Generation“ und ihrem Kampf gegen fossile Brennstoffe versus die noch nicht bestehende Möglichkeit der Gesellschaft, den vollen Verzicht der Produkte der Ölindustrie wie in der Mobilität (ausserhalb von Grossstädten) oder in anderen Produktionsketten zu ermöglichen. Die Bilder handeln von den Konflikten verschiedener Gesellschaftsgruppen untereinander und bilden dennoch eine Einheit in sich.
Aktuelle globale Themen werden mit aktuellen gegenwärtigen Materialien umgesetzt, die ich in die Bilder als Elemente miteinfüge, das sind Packungen von internationalen Autoteilen/ Herstellern der Verbrennungs- und Elektroindustrie sowie Textstellen von Debatten, sowie Autolacke, 1- und 2 Komponenten, Goldpigmente / Farbe aus Bronze, Aluminium, Erdölfarbtöne, Neonfarben wie „kalte Strahlungen“.
Die Acryl/ Öl /Lack-, Papier Bildern haben Titel wie „Starter Motor“ oder „Defensa del Petróleos“, ausgehend von den eincollagierten Packungsfragmenten internationaler Autoteile oder Autozeitschriften.
Die Serie „Lucky Seven“ hat ihren Namen von einem Spielsalon in Wedding. Die Sieben steht oft für Glück, oder Spirituelles oder eben auch für die Wochentage als immer wiederkehrender „hustle“ jedes Einzelnen in unserer Gesellschaft.
Der Spielsalon- Name als eine einfache Metapher, dass die Menschheit es in der Geschichte und auch heute immer wieder gerade schafft, an der absoluten Katastrophe vorbeizugleiten und dass nur mit viel Glück. Die Zukunft ist ungewiss und kann sich schnell zum Drama wenden, wie der Einmarsch der russischen Föderation in die Ukraine gezeigt hat und sich zum grausamen Krieg entwickelt hat und genauso wie die noch immer instabile Situation in Bosnien und Herzegowina und dem Kosovo sich leicht wieder in einen bürgerkriegsähnliche Situation wandeln kann.
Andere Bilder die zu sehen sind handeln von der Atelierarbeit nach den Reisen mit mitgebrachten eincollagierten Zeitschriften und Textilien mit Titeln wie „Bikefarm“, „Flamingo Park“ (2020), „Army of Hardcore“ (2022), „Chopper Shop“ (2013) oder „Power Plant“ (2015).
